Well where i live we have to put a sediment filter before the water softener,To catch anything large in the system it doesn’t take much to clog the venturi’s on the softener,then we filter the water basically at the point of use IE a reverse osmosis system.Hope this helps you.

February 19, 2007 | 8:17 AMI don’t know if all systems follow this procedure but all the well-water systems I have seen, the water enters the filter first and then the softener.

February 24, 2007 | 12:19 AMthe filter should be inline before the water softner. you don’t want salt from the softener to clog up your water filter.
