December 4, 2008 | 3:16 AMI cannot imagine how such a filter is of any particular use except as an advertising gimmick. A vacuum equipped with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter will both clean your carpet and the air coming from the vacuum. One that adds water to the air might raise humidity inside the house which may have adverse consequences.

December 4, 2008 | 12:32 PMI have heard of these from a customer of mine. The idea behind it is that the air is washed as it enters the vac, thus eliminating any type of dust, pollen, etc. Then when the water turns dirty, you remove it and replace it with new water. The most important thing that I would look for is who manufactures it,what type of warranty and for how long, and where can you easily get replacement parts if needed. Also, who would service this unit if it broke. If these answers are acceptable and in writing, and the price is affordable for you, then the hydra might be a great purchase for you.Never be pressured into buying, and know ALL the facts BEFORE you buy.Good Luck.

December 6, 2008 | 7:14 PMMy parents had one called The Rainbow. Yes, it does do a great job. But it’s such a hassle to use that no one wanted to bother with it. You have to clean the gunk out of the water tank and then dump the water. And then clean the tank. Plus you had to be very careful that you didn’t bump it and knock it over while you were vacuuming. But if you have bad allergies or something it would be a great vacuum to invest in.
