Important questions about water purifiers

Yikes! Did I ruin my permanent HEPA filter?

Nicole asked:

I just bought a Honeywell Air Purifier off of craigslist.com and when I turned it on, it gave off the smell of the guy’s house! So I decided to clean the filters since they are not supposed to be replaced, by rinsing them with warm water. As I was about to rinse the 2nd one, I saw a sticker on it that said to clean, run a vacuum hose down the side- DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER. Uh oh! Although I only ran water on the first one, did I ruin it? I can’t find replacement filters anywhere online!

How to clean HEPA filter in air purifier?

Nicole asked:

I just bought a Honeywell Air Purifier off of craigslist.com. It works fine but gives off a subtle smell of the house where I bought it from. It bothers me! The ads online for the air purifier say you don’t replace the filters but merely wash them. How do I do so? Just run them under water?

Does flipping the water filter/membrane over every so often increase the efficiency of your humidifier?

Chi Guy asked:

I have a large portable Honeywell unit (it is rated at 11 Gallons). Turning the filter over seems to be working. Every couple of hours I turn my filter/membrane over and the humidity output has increased by 5%.

I think it allows the water that has saturated the bottom of the filter to be be gravity fed over the entire surface when I turn it over which allows more moisture to be transferred into the air via the blower.

What are your thoughts on this?
