Water Purifier

I live in a large apartment complex. I have been noticing lately that is a brown sluge on the bottom of my bathroom tub after showers are taken.
I also notice the brown film on my dishes. As an experiment, I left a clear glass filled with a little water evaporate. There was a brown stain
on the bottom of the cup. I do not drink the water here. I use water purifiers for drinking water. I own a couple of hamsters and gerbils.
I am not allowed a cat or dog in the apartment. I lost several hamsters the first part of this year to a condition called wet tail.
It is a constipation/diarrhea in hamsters. I realized that it might have been the bad water so now I give my pets only filtered water to drink.
My husband is a chemist with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
He’s not even sure what this could be. He is concerned though that it could affect our health. We are planning to move the middle of next year when our lease expires. Any answers would be appreciated.
