Pur water filter stuck of faucet?

I installed a pur water filter to my faucet last week. Water started ********* from the top because it wasn’t twisted on correctly. I tried to use a locking pliers to twist the top off but it didn’t twist and the the plastic started scraping off. Anybody have any ideas on how I should remove it?

there are many types though. is this in-line or mounts on the end of your faucet in place of the aerator?
