I have the same problem but not to that extent.
i find that instant soup and noodles are usually cheap and can get quite a few.
frozen vegies should be cheap and last long?
Obviously go for non brand name products.
    Good luck

Rice. Beans. Ramen noodles. They are extremely inexpensive. Sorry, thats all I can help with… I’m sorry, but $50 for three weeks gets you very little. Definitely no meats… meat is very expensive.

Trader Joe’s: I know there’s one in San Francisco. Is that where you are at?

You could start by buying a couple of Kgs of rice..and pasta. These are your staples. Some tins of tomatoes and maybe tinned fruit can sometimes be cheaper than fresh fruit.
you can make a big pot of chilli con carne you will need:
    minced beef (1kg)
    kidney beans (tinned)
    corn kernals (tinned)
    tomatoes (tinned)
    a few onions
    some herbs and spices.
With rice you could get about 5-6 healthy meals out of this.
I dont know what country your in so I dont know how far $50 will stretch. Im in New Zealand and that whouldn’t get me very far. But its do-able.
If you have left over rice from the night before you can stirfry it with a few vegetables and soy sauce.
Here, the asian supermarkets are very cheap and they have lots of tasty foods and sauces.
Popcorn is a really cheap snack thats fun to cook.
Also you can get invited to friends places for dinner occasionally as well!
