How much propane(in weight) does a small camp stove use? is there a more efficient fuel?
Lily asked:
I am considering back packing and dont know what fuel to use. Would I get more cooking time for weight from sterno, propane, or Smoething else? Also, how can i make a simple dehidrator, a water purifier, and what should i pack? What are some good websites about hiking and backpacking?

December 12, 2008 | 7:39 PMIf you are backpacking, you want a gasoline powered stove, not propane. Propane tanks are heavy, but gasoline can be toted in lightweight aluminum containers that are designed for the purpose. Sterno cans are not as heavy as propane containers, but you still have to tote out the empties, and that’s not fun. Go to a sporting good store such as REI, and talk to some people there; you will learn a lot. Or go to their web site.

Propane tanks dont always come in big tanks like for a huge backyard grill. you can buy smaller ones at some stores like Cabelas or *****.
I also heard that sterno cans are light- wheight, easy to use, and are cheap. try those.
