How do I keep my sea monkey alive? Serius question please help?
Alison R asked:
Okay here is the deal. I got the sea monkey cage with the water purifier, the sea monkey eggs and the food. I put the purifier in one the first day then the sea monkey eggs the second day, but on the third day I did something stupid and dumped the whole packet of food in and it just turned green and I realized I read the instructions wrong. I looked it up and it said if you did this your sea monkeys will all just dye. Fair enough.

I know I know I didnt throw the water out I thought by keeping it I would create some monster creature lol. Well I didnt but one of the sea monkeys is alive and I didnt notice it before. The tank is discusting, and I want to know how to keep it alive? I have a clean tank I could move it too and I have some more food and wonder if I should keep feeding it or will it feed off of its fellow sea monkey corpses? Please answer because I dont want to be a murderer I want to keep it alive as long as possable!

January 17, 2009 | 10:32 PMget some distilled water…change one fourth of the water each day and hopefully your sea monkey will survive. It worked for my husband’s triops

okay, first of all - what you’re dealing with here are Artemia (brine shrimp) which prefer slightly saline water (30-35ppt - about the salinity of ocean water). so make sure you’re giving the little guy what he needs to survive. you might want to head down to the pet store and get either some eggs or live shrimp to keep him company; almost all pet stores should have them in stock.
can i assume from your tank turning green that you’re feeding it algae? this would be the appropriate food for it, rather than the dead bodies of its relatives.
fyi, it isn’t going to grow into some sort of predatory cannibal. he’s gonna be a total shrimp his whole life through.

January 22, 2009 | 3:53 PM“Sea monkeys” are just brine shrimp. You can get the survivor out using an eyedropper or turkey baster. Just **** up the shrimp and some water. But first, mix up some fresh water. You’ll need to go to a petstore and get tap water purifyer and aquarium salt. Make up the water, let it sit a few hours, and then **** out your shrimp and put it in the new water. You can feed it using any type of regular fish food ground up into fine powder. Just a tiny tiny amount at a time.
