    probably after it was cleaned out propperly, but if it was me i would buy new filter sponge/media.

    If you’re referring to a regular, hang-on-the-tank mechanical filter, yes. They work just fine for saltwater tanks.

    You can do that. However, if you plan on putting it back into a freshwater setup be sure to rinse it off well. All filters to my knowledge from working in a pet store can be used for both fresh and saltwater.
