Are Fire Belly Toads Usually Escape Artists?
x_frog.lovr_x asked:
This morning I went to check on my toad and it wasn’t there. We keep it in a 10 gallon aquarium, with a top clipped on it. We moved around all the rocks, islands, and even the water purifier thingy. it was no where. Is it possible that it could have scaled the glass [i know he likes to climb] and gotten out of the aquarium with the top clipped on and stuff sitting on top? Has this ever happened to you?
It escaped on the ground level of our house. It could have gone to the basement… But where are places that they like to hide? like…under stuff, clinging on the side… and how long can they go without water?

January 5, 2009 | 8:28 AMI have never lost one of my toads but I have had a few lizards escape. They tend to stay close to the place where they escaped from for quite a long time. Days, maybe even weeks. So don’t stop looking. I am thinking that the toad probably jumped out right before the lid was put back on. If it is a secure cage, he can’t move it to get out. How long was it from the time you last saw it, until it was missing? The little toads when they die, they shrivel up. I once thought I lost a toad until I found his little flat body. It might be overlooked if you are looking for a larger plump little guy. I would think that the toad would stay close to the ground if not on the ground. He will look for a place to hide. Use a flashlight when you are looking. He may blend in so much that you can be looking right at him, and not see him. You can leave a dish or two of water out for him, and keep it in the same place. You may find him in his water dish. I (or rather, my son) lost one lizard for 3 months, and we found him in the same room he escaped from.
Good luck!
